The 437th session of the Maryland General Assembly adjourned recently. During the 90 day session we worked hard to protect our investments in education, our roads and the Chesapeake Bay: we managed all of that without any new taxes.

As Chair of the influential Ways & Means committee, I have helped to shepherd legislation to limit testing time to 2% of instructional time; prevented the state board from meddling in schools affairs without the local community’s consent; supported tax credits to help our hometown heroes – police and fire personnel; and encouraged tax credits to support our key Montgomery County companies by providing tax credits to support the biotechnology industry as well as protecting and promoting Maryland’s most promising new ventures as they get off the ground and go to market.

I am proud to have supported local projects in District 14 and working with my District 14 colleagues to secure funding to help such diverse groups as the Olney Boys and Girls Club, Friends House in Sandy Spring, Good Hope Local Park, the Laytonsville Lions Club as well as providing much needed support to the Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children.

As we move towards next session, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have ideas or need help getting access to government services.
